Lesedi Daycare Quality Childcare for Farm Families in Marble Hall

Lesedi Day Care has seen its first day on the 7th of May 2012 and we can report very proudly that the children have all settled in well, quite content to have their parents close by in the pack house during our packing season (May until August) or on the farm in the orchards. LDC is based on Farm J92, just outside Marble Hall.

We have two childminders with a passion for children. These women care for the children with love.

Our True Passion

We provide educational stimulation and preparation for formal schooling. In addition, children attending LDC also receive two nutritious meals per day, which greatly improves their physical health.

Most of the children attending come from very poor households, unable to pay for the daycare. The daycare is currently charged at R100 per child per month, but most families cannot afford this, but we still encourage the parents to bring their children. Our dream is to offer the day care free of charge to the community.

ABET Training - Adult Literacy Programme

ABET is defined as the general conceptual foundation towards lifelong learning and development, comprising of knowledge, skills and attitudes required for social, economic and political participation and transformation applicable to a range of contexts. It is flexible, developmental and targeted at the specific needs of particular audiences and, ideally, provides access to nationally recognized certificates. This training is facilitated by ExcelSA Training and supported by AgriSETA. AgriSETA supports ABET as an extensive programme to assist employees in the agricultural environment to improve levels of literacy and numeracy, so they may enter further learning programs such as learnerships.

At Lesedi Day Care, we identified the need for adults and parents to be trained in order to assist their children’s education process. We believe in investing in its workers through ABET (Adult Basic Education and Training) and further schooling. According to the national census of 2011, 8.6% of the population aged 20 years and older has not completed any schooling. This initiative is aimed at improving the low level of education in the community.

SACS Rugby Programme

As a proud sponsor of SACS Rugby, Katlego is so excited to be a part of such a dynamic and impactful programme that aligns with the values of SACS and supports the development of young rugby players.

At SACS, rugby is more than just a sport – it is a key part of the scholars’ education and personal development. Their coaching staff is dedicated to providing high-level instruction and training that will not only prepare players for a potential professional career in rugby but also equip them with the skills and values necessary for success in life after rugby.

The Holistic Importance of Rugby at SACS

We believe that SACS Rugby should be representative of the broader socio-economic circumstances of our country. Their goal is to make the rugby programme attractive, entertaining, and enjoyable for all stakeholders – from the scholars and players to the coaches and teachers, to the parents and other interested parties.

In addition to supporting the rugby programme, we are also committed to promoting social responsibility through the sport of rugby. They have provided the opportunity through funding from sponsors and the Percy Montgomery Rugby Foundation to allow many disadvantaged rugby players to attend SACS. This year, we are taking it a step further by providing equipment and coaching to boys from township rugby clubs. With the means and personnel at our disposal, we believe that we can make a real difference in the lives of these young players.
